We finally know why Selena Gomez couldn’t join Taylor Swift at the 2025 Super Bowl: The actress had an awards season commitment.
Gomez brought a little spring bridal style to the Santa Barbara International Film Festival and its Virtuosos Awards yesterday. She was an honoree at the event, along with Wicked’s Ariana Grande.
Gomez wore a white Magda Butrym minidress with a floral embellishment on the waist. She accessorized with Messika jewelry, Santoni white heels, and a Jimmy Choo bag.
The Hollywood Reporter noted that Gomez was asked at the festival about how she was doing amid the drama surrounding Emilia Pérez and its star Karla Sofía Gascón’s controversial tweets.
Gomez handled the question tactfully: “I’m really good,” she said. “Some of the magic has disappeared, but I choose to continue to be proud of what I’ve done, and I’m just, I’m just grateful and live with no regrets.”
For ELLE’s December Women in Hollywood issue, Gomez spoke about how much gratitude she has at this point in her career. “[Talking] about a movie that’s so important and moving and beautiful, it’s been a wow moment for me,” she shared. “I definitely didn’t expect all of what’s happening. It just feels like a time in my life that I’m extremely grateful for. Honestly, every day I wake up thinking, How did I get to do this?”
She expressed her hope that Emilia Pérez could be “a great example to other creatives of how to be able to allow us to enrich each of these characters. [Director Jacques Audiard] let us do that with such freedom. It felt like you could see it on screen. Every one of us would love to just, again, give people hope. But yes, there’s much more to do [to make Hollywood better for women].”
