Everything to Know About Apple Martin, Gwyneth Paltrow’s Daughter

Up until this point, Apple Blythe Alison Martin may have been most famous for her celebrity parents—Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin—and her first name, but we can expect to see much more of the 20-year-old in years to come.

Just this Thursday, the college student made a surprise appearance during New York Fashion Week, when she attended an Hourglass Cosmetics event in a slinky black slipdress with a choker detail, looking like a total knockout.

This was her first major appearance following her society debut back in November 2024, and it’s clear that Apple’s got an affinity for style, given that she attended a Chanel Haute Couture show in 2023 and told Vogue: “I really enjoy keeping up with fashion.”

So, who exactly is Apple Martin? Ahead, see everything we know about the rising star.

She was born in London.

Like her father, Apple was born in England on May 14, 2004. But while he comes from the county of Devon, Apple was born in a hospital in London.

It was Martin who actually came up with Apple’s name, as revealed by Paltrow in an interview with Oprah Winfrey. “When we were first pregnant, her daddy said, ‘If it’s a girl, I think her name should be Apple.’ It sounded so sweet, and it conjured such a lovely picture for me,” Paltrow said. “Apples are so sweet and they’re wholesome, and it’s biblical. And I just thought it sounded so lovely.”

She has a younger brother named Moses.

Speaking of being biblical, Apple’s parents also went in that direction when they named Apple’s younger brother, Moses Bruce Paltrow Martin.

Moses was born on April 8, 2006, and he is Apple’s only sibling. However, we don’t know much about the pair’s relationship, as Paltrow and Martin have tried to keep their kids mostly out of the spotlight.

The siblings were not even allowed to have public social media accounts growing up, as Paltrow revealed during a chat with Rob Lowe on his podcast in 2020. “I won’t let them be public on any social media or anything like that, I try to keep them out of the public eye as much as possible,” she explained. “I’ve really tried not to just hand them things.”

To this day, Apple still has a private Instagram account: @applemartin.

She made her TV debut at the age of 2.

Even so, when your parents are two of the world’s biggest stars, it’s practically a given that you’ll end up on the screen at some point. For Apple, that moment arrived when she was merely two years old.

The eldest child of Paltrow and Martin made her TV debut when she appeared on an episode of Vh1: All Access in 2006, during a season three installment dedicated to the “20 Cutest Celebrity Babies.”

Years later, Apple also made a small appearance on her mom’s Netflix docuseries The Goop Lab (2020), making a cameo in “The Health-Span Plan” episode.

She is credited as a singer and songwriter on multiple Coldplay songs.

Although Apple was already making appearances on cable television by the age of two, she’s seemingly taken after her father more in artistic interests. In fact, she’s credited as a background singer and songwriter on multiple songs for her dad’s band, Coldplay.

On the album Music of the Spheres, Apple is credited for background vocals on the track “Higher Power.” She is also listed as a songwriter on one of the album’s singles: “Let Somebody Go” (with Selena Gomez). A few years later, she was credited as a songwriter again on the Moon Music track “feelslikeimfallinginlove.”

According to Genius, Apple has also provided backing vocals on the Coldplay songs “Orphans,” “O,” and “Music of the Spheres II.”

She is a student at Vanderbilt University.

Apple is currently a student at Vanderbilt University, where it is believed that she’s studying English and history.

Although her parents have never publicly confirmed where she is attending school, the news was let slip when Apple joined the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, and a series of Instagram Stories celebrating the new pledge were posted.

While her parents both found their niches in the entertainment industry, it turns out Apple may carve her own path in the world of fashion.

In January 2023, Apple sat in her first-ever front row at the Chanel Haute Couture show in Paris.

Immediately after, she spoke with Vogue about the experience, revealing that she “really enjoy[s] keeping up with fashion.” She added: “The Chanel Couture show was my first fashion experience, and I am so incredibly grateful to Chanel and their incredible team for having me. It was so exciting to see the art in the designs, and the theme of the line emerge throughout the show.”

She also spoke about her personal style, claiming that she’s not “super trendy,” but adding, “I love sweaters and oversized cardigans, loafers, and a good pair of comfy Levis. The most important thing for me is feeling like my genuine self when wearing an outfit; I’m aiming for a mix of classic ’90s and cool grandpa.”

She made her society debut in November 2024.

It’s not every day that you see someone make their debut to society anymore (hi, Rory Gilmore), but Apple decided to embrace the old-fashioned and make a proper society debut in November 2024.

The rising “It” girl took this step when she attended Le Bal des Débutantes in Paris, where she wore a custom baby-blue Valentino dress from the house’s new creative director, Alessandro Michele. The strapless gown featured a pleated, tiered skirt, as well as a large black bow detail in the front.

During the event, Apple shared a dance with her father, who was in attendance along with Paltrow, brother Moses, and Apple’s grandmother, actress Blythe Danner.
