Harrison Ford first played Indiana Jones back in 1981 and went on to play the beloved character in five movies over the course of four decades. His latest and final appearance in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny didn’t seem to live up to the hype of the movies in the franchise that came before it.
The 82-year-old actor recently revealed that he’s not too broken up about the box-office failure of his last Indy movie during an interview with The Wall Street Journal Magazine.
“S**t happens,” he told the outlet before he explained, “I was really the one who felt there was another story to tell. When [Indy] had suffered the consequences of the life that he had to live, I wanted one more chance to pick him up and shake the dust off his a** and stick him out there, bereft of some of his vigor, to see what happened.” Ford also admitted that he’s “still happy [he] made that movie.”

The fifth entry in the franchise premiered in 2023 and reportedly cost Disney an estimated $387.2 million to produce. The film ultimately made well under $400 million and lost the company around $134.2 million.
Ford, who is also known for his role as Han Solo in Star Wars, most recently signed on to join another big franchise, the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actor is stepping in to play Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross in the franchise after the death of William Hurt in March 2022.
Ford will make his debut as “Thunderbolt” Ross in the upcoming Captain America: Brave New World opposite Anthony Mackie. The third Captain America film in the franchise is the first with Mackie as the title hero and is set to introduce the Red Hulk.
Fans can expect to see Ford and Mackie face off in the Captain America movie when it premieres on Friday, February 14.
