TV star hospitalized after getting shot in face; bullet fragment lodged behind eye

A television star was hospitalized over the weekend after getting shot in the face.

“Even Stevens” and “Kim Possible” star Christy Carlson Romano revealed Saturday that she was seriously injured during a shooting trip in Austin, Texas, for her husband Brendan Rooney’s birthday.

“I took him to shoot clay pigeons as a present,” Romano said on Instagram, alongside a video showing injuries to her right eye and forehead. “There was another party with us and they unsafely fired in the wrong direction and shot me in the face.”

“I was hit in 5 places, one was less than an inch from hitting me directly in my right eye,” she continued. “Unfortunately a fragment got lodged behind my eye and it is too risky to remove surgically at this time. Doctors will continue to monitor me (I can see normally at the moment).”

Romano, 40, said her husband, 42, was quick to respond to the situation and also thanked medical staff who helped her at the hospital. She said she is happy to be alive and encouraged fans to “be grateful for every day.”

“I love my daughters, husband, family, and friends so much. I saw my life flash before my eyes,” she said, “and I’m telling you, hug the people around you every chance you can. Life can change in an instant.”

Romano is an actress who has appeared in more than 80 movies and TV shows, including playing Ren Stevens in Disney’s “Even Stevens” and the titular characters in the animated “Kim Possible.” Her credits also include “Cadet Kelly,” “The Cutting Edge: Going for Gold,” the “Final Fantasy” video games, and the new reality TV show “Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test.”

E! News reports Romano, who has two young daughters, has been married to Rooney for 11 years. Rooney is an executive producer for multiple podcasts, including Romano’s “Even More Stevens” and “Vulnerable.”

“You are the bravest, toughest, most stoic and badass woman I have ever met,” he commented on her Instagram post. “I am so thankful you are alive. I am so thankful you are the mother to our children. I wouldn’t know what to do without you. I love you more than life itself.”
